Creating a Virtual Machine
Posted on Sun 21 August 2016 in Virtualization
Step by Step how to create a VM
• From the vSphere console click,
File > New > Virtual Machine
• Select Typical
• Name your VM
• Select a datastore, this is where the .vmdk will reside
• Select the operating system that will be installed
• Modify network settings as needed or click next
• Choose a disk size, something larger than the default, think future data storage needs!
Leave the default thick provisioned (don’t use thin disks!*)
• Edit the virtual machine before completion, tick the box
• Adjust the RAM to 4GB
• Adjust the CPU cores to 1\4
Once the VM is ready, right click, edit settings:
• CD/DVD Drive 1
• Select a datastore ISO file (this would be the OS you want to install)
• Tick the Connect at Power on button
* Right click the VM > Power > Power On
• Right Click > Open Console
(note the change in icon)
Complete the OS setup...
