Download Clients
Posted on Tue 23 August 2016 in Media Server
To start off, creating an automatic media center, you're going to need a download client. There are a few out there but I'm going to focus on two, one for nzbs and one for torrents.
sabnzbd for nzbs. It's easy to install, use and configure, works on most platforms and its freeware. sab will fetch your newsgroup articles once told where to get the in the form of an nzb. with nzbs you're paying for access to servers to download content, not sharing media across the internet.
Installing SAB
Run the installer, it's a wizard you can't go wrong.
Once installed you'll need to change a few settings:
Config>
Folders
set your download, incomplete, complete and watch folders
Servers
enter more than one server address, watch your connection count
Categories
set up some tags, like movies, tv etc
Scheduling
downloads are better off running in the early hours
uTorrent for torrents. Easy to install, easy to use, has a remote client. Sadly, full of ads. Torrents are being slowly banned across the world as they're mostly sharing pirated software, malware and are rapidly becoming unmanaged nightmares. Torrent sites are probably blocked where you live and using a torrent client during peak times will get you throttled by your ISP.
Installing uTorrent
Download and install uTorrent. It's a wizard, you can't go wrong.
Once installed, you'll want to change a few settings:
Options> Preferences
Directories
set your download, incomplete, complete and watch folders
Scheduler
downloads are better off running in the early hours
Remote
enable it and set a password, it's for the android app
Advanced
WebUI
enable the webUI, set a username, password and port
