We love our dogs as if they were members of our family – because to us they really are! We show our dogs that we love them in many ways besides their regular care and grooming by buying them special treats and toys.
But how do our dogs tell us they love us? We have a good feeling they are, but it would be great to know for sure.
It may seem one-sided at times, but if your dog does these five (+4 bonuses) things for you, it means he loves you just as much!
#1 is to play with you and bully you

Although it seems like it happens at the most inappropriate time, our dogs sometimes become playful and try to fight with us. This is their natural way of playing!
If you’ve ever watched your puppy play with another dog, you’ll know that he’s offering you the same behavior. A little wrestling with your dog is definitely safe and fun, and will even give you a new game to keep your relationship going!
#2 – Leaning on you
Most dogs crave as much physical attention as possible from their humans. Many dogs lean, snuggle, or hug when they want extra love. They often rely on someone they trust because it gives them a sense of security.
When your dog leans on you while you’re relaxing on the couch, don’t take it for granted. This is a sign of true love!
#3 – Sleep with you

dogs are pack animals, and in the wild wolves and other dogs sleep huddled together in packs. This helps them stay warm and feel safe. It’s also a way for your dog to show you that he cares.
He wants to be close to you, and this is his natural way of showing you that he feels comfortable and sees you as family.

#4 – Hugs with your belongings
A loyal dog loves everything about his people, even their smell! So you may see your dog sleeping on your dirty clothes or wearing your socks. These acts of affection are usually harmless, but if your dog chews, you’ll want to keep your clothes out of your reach.
PRO TIP: Having something that smells like you can help separation anxiety.
#5 – Jumps on you

Although this is usually an unwanted behavior, dogs jump on people because they like them. When you come home from work or running errands, your dog is excited and wants to welcome you back!
Although it is best to teach dogs another, more acceptable way to share their excitement, jumping should be seen as a display of affection.

#6 – Bringing you gifts
dogs who love their people often bring them their favorite toys. Sometimes it’s a sign that they want to play, but sometimes it’s because they want to share one of their prized possessions with you.
Your dog may also give you his broken toys to ask you to fix them. This proves that they trust you and love you. This is a great gesture for them!
#7 – Wagging tails

While tail wagging is not always a sign of happiness, it is commonly shown to dog owners as a means of affection. When a dog‘s tail is wagging freely and his body language shows other signs of comfort and excitement, it’s safe to say he’s very happy to have you around!
#8 – Maintain eye contact
Just like people, dogs don’t want to make eye contact with strangers or people they don’t trust. So, if a dog looks longingly into your eyes, this is a sign of love! By maintaining eye contact during training or play, you can create a closer bond between you and your dog.
When dogs and humans look at each other, their brains release oxytocin, also known as the “love hormone.” It’s like the love you feel when you dogs-is-like-a-drug-for-our-brains/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>pet the dog.
#9 – Take care of yourself

dogs will follow their owners for a variety of reasons, including knowing that you are usually their source of food and shelter.
They are also pack animals that enjoy being with their families, and following you around is just another clue that your pup enjoys being around you because he loves you.
So, while she may be in the way from time to time, it’s important to remember that she just wants your company.
